Voters in Jersey City will brave inclement weather today to cast their ballots a second time in the city's municipal elections.

City Councilman James Solomon and former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey were the top two vote-getting candidates in the Nov. 4 general election, but since neither received a majority of the votes, they and numerous city council candidates are back on the ballot for the Tuesday, Dec. 2, runoff.

Solomon has served on the Jersey City Council since 2017. He previously worked in the offices of longtime Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and then-Newark Mayor Cory Booker. Solomon won the most votes in the general election and has secured several key endorsements from the likes of former mayoral candidates Bill O'Dea, Mussab Ali, as well as U.S. senators Andy Kim and Elizabeth Warren.

McGreevey was election governor of New Jersey in 2001 but resigned in 2004 amid a scandal over an extramarital affair. Since leaving the governorship, McGreevey ran a nonprofit that provides services to people adjusting to society after serving time in prison, addiction treatment or combat duty. He has billed himself as a "champion of second chances."

Solomon has spent an estimated $1.3 million on his campaign, compared to about $2.5 million spent by McGreevey.
