A pair of conjoined twins born earlier this year are finally going home after undergoing a successful separation surgery at Texas Children’s Hospital in June. Ella Grace and Eliza Faith Fuller were conjoined at the abdomen and shared the same liver when they were born on March 1st.
In a six-hour marathon surgery on June 14th, led by Dr. Alice King, seven surgeons, four anesthesiologists, four surgical nurses, and two surgical technicians worked tirelessly to ensure the twins' safe separation. The large team of healthcare workers had begun the operation’s planning even before the girls were born. "We have all been working together to achieve one common goal: the best outcome for Ella and Eliza," says Dr. King.
The twins’ parents, Sandy and Jesse Fuller, were ecstatic to see their girls weighing a healthy 5 pounds and 10 ounces each. It’s been a long journey since finding out they were having conjoined twins during Sandy’s second trimester, but now the family is looking forward to getting home and getting on with their lives.
