A homeless good Samaritan in Florida reunites a two-year-old boy with his parents after a car thief unknowingly made off with the sleeping toddler. Darrel Everman, 57, spotted the child on the side of the street in Holly Hill, just north of Daytona, after the thief had removed the toddler from the stolen vehicle. "I didn't see any parents around and he was crying a little bit so I thought I'd better check on him," he recalls.
Everman, who has been living out of his car for the last few years, comforted the boy by staying calm and acting as if "nothing important was going on." He contacted the police, leading to the toddler being reunited with his anxious parents.
At a community watch meeting after the incident, Holly Hill Police Chief Jeffrey Miller praised Everman for his good deed. Acknowledging his act, some community members are working to help him get back on his feet. But Everman didn’t help the child for his own benefit, saying, “I was concerned. He looked like he needed some help, and I was glad I was there to help him.'
