Age is nothing but a number to Sandy Hazelip and Ellie Hamby. Inspired by Jules Verne’s book, “Around the World in 80 Days,” these 81-year-old besties from Texas are making their travel dreams come true by seeing the world. They’re on a mission to see all seven continents, nine Wonders of the World and 18 countries in just over two and a half months.

Ellie, a documentary photographer who runs a medical mission, and Sandy, a doctor and hospice caregiver, had planned to start their trip two years ago, but COVID had other plans. So they’re now on the trip of a lifetime, traveling cheaply to see as much as they can. "We don't travel first class,” Sandy explains. “And so when we have other ladies, especially who say, 'Oh, I would love to travel with you two,' the first thing I always do is look at their hands. If they are well-manicured, they do not want to travel with us.”

While they didn’t quite get to go around the world in 80 days at age 80, like they first wanted to do, they have a new motto that sums them up perfectly: “Age 81 and still on the run.” And they encourage other older folks with wanderlust to get up and go. “Don’t sit in the chair and waste away,” Sandy says. “If you don’t use it, you lose it.”
