A Pittsburgh couple is kicking off 2023 together, after being separated for almost a year. Andrii Stepovyi and his wife Tarra Layne are grateful to be reunited following an unexpected, extended time apart.
It started when Andrii, a Ukrainian national, was visiting his mother in Ukraine last February when Russia invaded. The border closed and he found himself trapped there, so he said he had no choice but to join the military and help defend his home country.
The couple spent the majority of 2022 thousands of miles apart, but they finally got the reunion they’ve been waiting for on New Year’s Eve at the Pittsburgh International Airport. “This is going to be the best New Year’s of my life because I just can’t believe this is all happening now, finally,” Tarra says.
