A cashier at a Florida Walmart is being praised for her kindness and generosity after she paid $648 of her own money for items that elementary school students were giving to the SPCA. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School in Seminole, Florida, raised $35-hundred for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals (SPCA) with their walk-a-thon.
A group of students, parents and teacher Leslie Carneiro went to the Bay Pines Walmart to buy the items they were going to donate to the SPCA, but after picking up some of the items, the school’s credit card was flagged for fraud and wouldn’t let them finish their purchases. Their cashier, Phyllis Collins, stepped in and swiped her own credit card, selflessly paying for the remaining $648 worth of supplies.
When the students and parents found out about the kind gesture, they were blown away. Later, Collins was paid back out of the money the students raised, but even if she hadn’t been, she was happy to help, saying that she has been blessed in her life. When local news reached out to interview Collins, she said she’d prefer the focus be on the students for their act of kindness. The experience has been a teachable moment for the kids, to see how their generosity can spread to others.
