Engaged Couple Moves Up Wedding After They're Both Diagnosed With Cancer

A Michigan couple have moved up their wedding because of some life changing news. Clay Slenk and Mariah Nelesen planned a June wedding but changed it to April after both got diagnosed with cancer… a week apart. First it was Mariah. Then a week later Clay got a similar call.

Nelesen has ovarian cancer that’s treatable with chemo and surgery. Slenk was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant. Their new wedding date allows Mariah to care for Clay after his procedure.

The pair says their vows and their life together have taken on a whole new meaning. Clay says in particular “in sickness and in health” is one they’ll get a jump on. Slenk shares "It won't be easy going forward, but we know that it'll be more meaningful to go through it together.”
