Former Marine Drives From UK To Ukraine With Supplies, Toys For Refugees

A veteran from Dorset, England, is driving over 1-thousand miles from the UK to the Polish-Ukrainian border to deliver supplies to aid Ukrainian refugees. When Tom Littledyke, 31, from Lyme Regis in the south of England, saw pictures of children and families “broken and separated” by the Russian invasion in Ukraine, he wanted to do something to help. So the ex-Royal Marine, pub owner and restaurateur started collecting supplies to deliver to refugees in western Ukraine.

In less than a day, Littledyke had collected a van full of items, including blankets, pillows, and toys for the children affected by the violent invasion. He also started a crowdfunding page that has raised over $5-thousand. On Monday, Littledyke set off from his home on the more than 20 hour drive after stopping off in Kent to pick up some men who are headed to fight for Ukraine.

Littledyke hopes to show the people of Ukraine that they’re not alone and give them “a tinge of hope and warmth.” He says when people can’t make a grand gesture, they often do nothing, but he thinks it’s important to do something, even if it's only a small thing. "It doesn't matter what we do as long as it's something in the right direction,” he says. “There's so many of us who want to help, it will all build to this gigantic thing."
