Penn State’s 50th annual dance marathon raises a record-setting $13.7-million to help fight childhood cancer. Every year since 1973, students from Pennsylvania State University have hosted a dance marathon called THON to raise money to support families in their fights against childhood cancer.
The dance marathon happened this past weekend at the university’s Bryce Jordan Center arena. More than 700 participants started dancing at 6pm on Friday attempting to keep it up until 4pm on Sunday. This year’s event featured surprise musical performances by Chelsea Cutler and Bea Miller.
Since its inception, THON has raised over $200-million to help fight childhood cancer. This year was the sixth year in a row that the event has raised over $10-million. The money goes to the Four Diamonds fund, whose mission is “to conquer childhood cancer by assisting children and their families through superior care, comprehensive support and innovative research” at the Penn State Health Children’s Hospital.
