Teacher Who Inspires Students Surprised With $10K From “GMA”

A Florida elementary school teacher who’s making a big impact teaching kids about science is surprised with $10-thousand from “Good Morning America.” Rhonda Ripperger, a STEM teacher at South Lake Elementary School in Titusville, Florida, gets hands-on with her students to get them excited about science. She teaches a program called Smart Lab for kindergarten through fifth grade students where they learn about coding and engineering.

Ripperger says she finds teaching about science and space rewarding and wants to get her students excited about learning. "I just want them to realize that science is all around them," she says. "Like everywhere they look in the real world, it's science. And so I just really want to instill that passion in them." She’s gained a reputation for her influence and dedication to teaching STEM, so education crowdfunding platform Donors Choose teamed up with “Good Morning America” to reward her efforts. On Tuesday, Ripperger was featured on “GMA” where she was given $10-thousand.

After the donation was presented to Ripperger, she said "this is going to change a lot here, I am so excited and know our students will be too."
