Fatal Crash in Knox County, Centerburg Man, 32, Dies in Accident on SR 229

Fatal Crash in Knox County

Mount Vernon - The Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred on Monday, May 26, 2025 at 00:51 AM, on State Route 229 near milepost 7 in Clinton Township, Knox County.

Ryan Carlisle, age 35 of Centerburg, Ohio, was operating a 2016 Ram 3500 westbound on State Route 229. Mr. Carlisle failed to negotiate a curve, drove off the right side of the roadway, and struck several utility poles. Zachary White, age 32 of Centerburg, Ohio, was the front seat passenger.

Mr. Carlisle sustained minor injuries and was transported to Knox Community Hospital by Mount Vernon Fire/EMS. Mr. White was transported from the scene by Mount Vernon Fire/EMS to Knox Community Hospital. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Mount Vernon Police Department, and Mount Vernon Fire/EMS. Alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
