Polk Homecoming Celebration - 175th Birthday

Village of Polk

What to Expect at the Polk Homecoming Celebration

Polk turns 175 years old this year! We will celebrate its rich history on July 28, in the park. Invite your friends and family members to join us! Our day will begin with a community church service and opening ceremony, in the Church of Christ, at 9:30am. Enjoy hearing hymns from the 1800s, played on an antique pump organ! Everyone is welcome to attend! During the opening ceremony, we would like to honor the historic families of the Polk area who have lived here for 90 + years and the V.I.P. Residents who are 85 + years old. We will have many historic displays in the Hall of History (the old firehouse), where you can learn about the history of Polk and its historic residents. Our own town historian, Craig Wiley, will narrate a power point presentation on historical pictures of Polk in the Community Center. Be sure to check the posted schedule for times. Local food trucks will tempt your taste buds with delicious food! The Lions Club will offer scrumptious baked goods, under the pavilion. Also under the pavilion, you will find free face painting and raffles. 100% of profits will be donated to humanitarian projects. Participate in the beard contest, the costume contest, and the baking contest, and win cash prizes! Goodies will be auctioned off immediately following the contest. Join in an old-fashioned cake walk! Stroll through the park and enjoy listening to music from an antique band organ, while you watch spinning demonstrations, and many displays and crafters throughout the park. The children can play in the bounce house, on the inflatable slide, take pony rides, horse drawn wagon rides, or challenge each other to a game of laser tag, FREE, thanks to our sponsors! A petting zoo will be provided by local 4-Hers from the Barnyard Bunch. Relive the gold rush days of 1849, by visiting the gem mining sluice! The Samaritan Hospital will be giving FREE Biometric Tests, which include blood pressure checks, glucose, and cholesterol—so you may want to visit that display before you eat, so you can get a good reading.😉 We are celebrating the 1850s, so you are encouraged to join the fun by dressing in period attire, and have your Sepia picture taken in the surrey with a fringe on top! The day will culminate with a concert by Brand New Hat, under the pavilion, from 5-8pm. Please plan to join us and renew old friendships while enjoying all the celebration has to offer. Hope to see you there!
