A school district in Arizona is thinking outside the box when it comes to luring teachers to its district. Chino Valley Unified School District is in the process of building 10 studio units that are each 400 square feet behind an elementary school for teachers to live in while they teach. Educators are expected to pay about $550 per month, which is below what rent in that area usually goes for.
Chino Valley is one of at least eight Arizona school districts creating this kind of housing for teachers. As for who’s footing the bill, North Central Arizona is using money from a relief fund and what’s more, each district could be matched up to a half million dollars as part of the program. They're not alone either. California, Nevada and Hawaii have similar programs for teachers.
