A cat named Lucky from Florida is found in Kansas, 15-hundred miles away from his home.

This past weekend, a resident of Prairie Village, Kansas, saw a cat out in the cold and called the town’s Animal Control Unit. “Our Animal Control Unit microchipped the cat,” says Prairie Village Police Captain Ivan Washington. “Usually the kitten is local, right? That way, we can reunite the kitten with the owner quickly. This time, it ended up that the owner is in Miami, Florida.”

That Lucky was so far from home presented a few challenges for the Prairie Village police, but they were able to track down the cat’s owner, who said Lucky had been missing for two years. They believed that Lucky had been stolen and had even filed a police report at the time. “‘Stop it, right?’” Washington says of the conversation he had with Lucky’s owner. “That was their response. ‘You got Lucky?’ I guess we have Lucky. Yes, Lucky was lucky. We have Lucky. They are ecstatic. They’re happy, obviously.”

For the next few days, Lucky will be the guest of the Great Plains Pet Adoption Center. And lans are in the works to transport Lucky back to Miami in the coming days.
