Chicago residents band together to help a man who lost his dog in a carjacking. When a gun-wielding carjacker demanded Tim Sheridan give him his wallet and the keys to his Prius, he did the safe thing and handed them over. It wasn’t until a few minutes after the incident that the 56-year-old father realized the most valuable thing that the thief had taken: his family’s seven-year-old dog Bowie, who was in the backseat of the car.

Bowie is like a child to Sheridan, so he was distraught at losing her and couldn’t sleep at all that night, but people across the Near West Side neighborhood offered to help find Bowie and thanks to the kindness of strangers, Sheridan was reunited with his beloved pup the next morning. It turns out the carjacker let Bowie go just after the carjacking and someone found her wandering the streets and dropped her off at Pack Life doggy daycare. They saw postings online about the missing pup and arranged to return Bowie to her owner.

Sheridan says the help he received from the community has reinforced his faith in humanity. "It just shows you, Chicago is a great city and people are really good," he says. Bowie means the world to Sheridan and his kids and they’re grateful to have her back home again and appreciate the help from their neighbors. "We do look out for each other. And that to me is so important and I'm just so happy to have Bowie back," he says.
