New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft donates $50-million to Massachusetts General Hospital. Last week, Mass General announced that they’d received their largest donation in the institution’s 212 year history from Robert K. Kraft and The Kraft Family Foundation.

A 2011 donation of $25-million to Mass General by the Kraft family established the Kraft Center for Community Health. This new donation will further support that program, as well as help expand the hospital’s blood donation facilities and support historically underfunded research into genetic blood disorders like sickle cell disease, which disproportionately affects Black people.

Kraft says that he’s pleased with the work that Mass General is doing, but knows there’s a lot more to be done. He hopes that his gift will help to combat healthcare inequities and increase access to excellent care.
