Deputy Climbs Building To Save Baby From Apartment Fire

A sheriff's deputy in Orange County, Florida climbs up the outside of an apartment building to rescue a one-year-old baby from a fire. Early Saturday morning, Deputy William Puzynski responded to a report of an apartment fire in Orlando. When he arrived, a woman and her baby girl were on a third-floor balcony with flames coming from the apartment behind them.

With help from his fellow deputies, Puzynski was boosted up to the building’s second-floor balcony. He then grabbed the baby from her mother and lowered the child down to deputies on the ground. The baby’s mother and grandmother were rescued a few minutes later using a ladder. Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire or rescue effort.

“Afterwards when the mom came and found me, she actually gave me a hug, so it was rewarding,” Puzynski says. “It’s a different feeling. Some nights you go home, and you don’t really know if you’ve made a difference, but in situations like this you feel it.”
