A North Carolina woman just hit it big in the lottery, but she says she wouldn’t have won if her store had her favorite ticket in stock. Joanne Pacheco, of Durham, tells North Carolina Education Lottery officials that she hit up the Lakeland Street Mini Mart to buy her go-to scratch-offs, only to find they were sold out of them.
She ended up buying four tickets of a different game and that change really paid off. Pacheco got home and discovered one of the scratchers was a $200-thousand winner! “I was sitting on my bed, thinking I can't believe this is real,” she recalls.
The lucky lady says the money will be helpful after her recent move from New Hampshire to North Carolina to be closer to her son. “I’m gonna live happily for the rest of my life,” Pacheco says. “That’s all that matters to me.”
