Having your life saved by paramedic Kristi Hadfield runs in the family for the Cunninghams. Seven years ago, former marine John Cunningham didn’t feel good and stopped in to get checked. Hadfield thought he needed to be looked at in the hospital 45 minutes away, but on the ambulance ride over he went into cardiac arrest. Hadfield restarted his heart and saved his life. After he recovered, she sent him a Facebook friend request, which led to his daughter Molly Jones friending her too.

Seven years later, Molly posted on Facebook and asked if anyone would consider donating a kidney. She had kidney disease and was worried about leaving her 15-year-old daughter behind if she died. The first respondent to her post? Kristi Hadfield simply asked, “How do I figure out if I’m a match?” She was, and a few months ago the kidney transplant was a success.

Having a life-saving, giving nature runs in the family. Hadfield told the press that her grandson is 15 years old and has already told her that if she ever needs a kidney all she has to do is call.
