Never seen an elephant do downward dog? Then you haven’t been to the Houston Zoo. According to the zoo’s elephant manager, Kristen Windle, all 12 members of the elephant herd do several workouts, including yoga, as part of their training exercises. But the star of the show is 40-year-old, 6,500-pound Tess who can do a handstand.
Each session lasts 30 seconds to five minutes and it’s completely voluntary. "If they don't want to get involved or if they don't want to keep working with it, they can just walk away." Windle says. However, she adds that those who participate get major rewards like bananas and slices of bread.
