Identical twin sisters Courtney Fuggiti and Amy Essenpreis, from Chicago, have always shared a close bond and recently, the 36-year-olds embarked on a journey that has brought them even closer. Amy and her husband Anthony have struggled to conceive a child for years and now her twin sister has signed on to help them have a baby.
Courtney successfully used genetic testing and IVF to conceive and carry two children. Amy, however, experienced difficulty conceiving, and her sister supported her throughout the process. "We basically clung to each other,” Amy says. “Throughout our life we've been in everything together, we've done everything together."
A conversation about surrogacy was unnecessary for the sisters, as Courtney says it was obvious to her that she needed to help her twin. Courtney is now carrying Amy's child and feels fortunate to be part of this process. "A lot of people say, 'It's such a nice thing to do, she's so lucky,'” Courtney explains, “But I'm actually the one who's lucky. I'm the one who gets to help with this situation and bring baby girl Fuggiti into this world."
