Tyler Perry is donating $750,000 to help Atlanta's low-income seniors, who are seeing their property taxes increase due to the success of his movie studio in the area. Perry reached out to Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens to help keep these residents in their homes.
As the value of the land surrounding Tyler Perry Studios increases, property taxes rise, which would have ended up forcing seniors living on a fixed income out of their homes. Tyler's donation will cover all back property taxes for nearly 300 low-income seniors and freeze property taxes for another 100 low-income seniors for the next 20 years!
Perry reportedly plans to donate $500k every year for the next four years as well, for a total of $2.75 million planned. His donation will be handled by Invest Atlanta Partnership during this time.
