An Eagle Scout in Texas saves his grandfather when he suffers a sudden heart attack. While at his home in Houston, 75-year-old Jerome Happ had a sudden heart attack. Fortunately, his grandson, Christopher Giles, was close by and quickly came to his grandfather’s aid.
Giles called on the CPR skills he learned ten years ago when he was a Boy Scout on his way to achieving the organization's highest award, Eagle Scout. “I wasn’t out there waiting for this day to happen,” Giles says. “It just sort of was there when I needed it. I called upon it.”
Paramedics arrived shortly after and transported Happ to a nearby hospital where he was diagnosed with heart failure and a blood clot in his lung. He underwent surgery to implant a miniature heart pump and is doing better now. The grandfather and his grandson say the experience has brought them even closer than they were before.
