A Maryland dad’s boating app goes to the top of the app charts following his daughter’s viral TikTok post. After years of dreaming about creating a boater’s navigation app with social features, four years ago, Jeff Foulk created Argo. To promote his app, Captain Jeff hit the Chicago Boat Show, but he wasn’t having much luck spreading the word.
At the boat show, his daughter Megan Foulk shot a video of her dad trying to pass out flyers as people walked by his booth without paying any attention. She posted the 12-second video to TikTok with some sad music and a caption that reads “Help blow up my dad’s boating app. He’s worked so hard on it and just wants people to try it out.” The post took off and was viewed over 24-million times.
Pretty soon, millions of TikTokers were spreading the word about Foulk’s app, leading to over 175-thousand downloads and thousands of positive reviews. At some point about a week ago, the app was the most downloaded navigation app on the Apple App Store, more popular than even Google Maps and Waze. Jeff was blown away by the response and said that the volume of new users temporarily crashed the app. “It was so much more than any of us expected,” he says. “We are so very grateful for all the support, from so many directions.”
