A community near Sacramento rallies to give their blind neighbor’s home some much-needed improvements. Faye Abbas has been blind since birth and didn’t realize how run down her home of the past 30 years had become. But her neighbor Paul Bridge noticed and decided to do something about it.
For the past few weeks, Paul and around a dozen other neighbors have been tackling projects at Faye’s house. The volunteers have replaced panels and siding and done some painting. And they’ve also filled one special request from the homeowner: a pink front door. "I'm thrilled about those pink doors. I really like pink,” says Faye. “I can't see it, but I like the feel of it. Colors have feel."
Paul was able to raise more than $5-thousand to help fund the project and says if there’s anything left after the work’s done, they plan to donate it to Faye. They’ve also gotten some discounts and donations from several companies including Blue Note Brewery, Home Depot and Sherwin Williams. And although she can’t see the care that her neighbors are giving her home, Faye says she can feel it. "I've just been stunned. It's like I all of a sudden have a whole family here," she says.
