A Kentucky coal miner who was photographed at a college basketball game with his family while still in his work clothes and covered in coal dust is being given VIP tickets to a future game. Last week, University of Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari tweeted a pic of a coal miner who was sitting in the stands at a game with his son, having come straight from work.
“My family’s American dream started in a Clarksburg, WV coal mine, so this picture hits home,” the tweet reads. “From what I’ve been told, after his shift, he raced to be with his son & watch our team. Don’t know who this is, but I have tickets for him & his family at Rupp to be treated as VIPs!!” The tweet went viral, was liked by over 170-thousand and retweeted more than 17-thousand times.
Fans quickly got to work identifying the hardworking dad and Calipari followed up saying they’d found out his name was Michael McGuire. They made contact with his wife Mollie and said they were looking forward to hosting the family at a game soon!
