A Michigan high school senior saves a classmate having a seizure at school. While in fifth period study hall, Taylor High School sophomore Caiden Lutton suffered a seizure. A couple of his classmates rushed out of the classroom to get help just as 12th grader Austen Parrish was walking by. Austen, who is in the school’s fire, EMS, and public safety program, stepped in to help his classmate.
In the critical few minutes after Caiden’s seizure started and before paramedics arrived on campus, Austen attended to him, possibly saving his life. “So I place him on his left side, to make it easier for him to spit out everything,” Austen explains.
Caiden, who has no memory of the incident, is grateful for his classmate’s help. “I mean I could’ve died so yea. From what I know it was violent, he saved my life,” Caiden says. But Austen was just glad he was able to help prevent a tragedy and was glad to see Caiden back at school a couple of days later. “I’m not gonna lie, when he walked in I almost cried,” the hero says.
