A good Samaritan in Los Angeles is being praised for saving an elderly Asian man from a carjacking. Earlier this year, an unidentified Black man was caught on video running off a would-be carjacker after stopping him from stealing an elderly Asian man’s car. The good Samaritan’s actions are being held up as an example of allyship between Black and Asian neighbors.
The video doesn’t show the purported carjacking, but the few minutes afterwards. In the clip, a Black man in a white t-shirt is pointing a pistol at another Black man dressed head to toe in black. He’s yelling at him telling him to get off his street. The alleged carjacker throws a set of keys to the good Samaritan and he turns around and tosses them back to someone out of frame, who says “thank you.” The good Samaritan then fires a warning shot into the air and walks behind the alleged carjacker to the end of the block, pushing him further down the sidewalk a few times.
Someone from the advocacy group Black and Asian Souls Unite posted the video on Instagram where it’s received thousands of likes and hundreds of comments. Most of the commenters praised the good Samaritan for coming to the defense of his Asian neighbor and said he was an example of how good people should come together to help each other.
