A dad in Texas creates Wordle Junior for kids so his daughter can enjoy the game. At the beginning of 2022, the web-based game Wordle was all everyone was talking about. The word game’s popularity may have waned a bit, but lots of people are still enjoying the daily challenge, including Praneeth Mudiganti‘s nine-year-old daughter, Ria. But the Austin dad noticed his daughter was finding the game a bit too challenging, so he decided to do something about it.
Praneeth, who is a software engineer, built his own version of the game that’s geared for kids, is a little bit easier and offers “hints” for when you get stuck. He tackled the project not only to make it easier for kids like his daughter to play, but also to teach her that coding games is something she could learn to do. “I wanted to get her interested in technology and like coding and stuff like that,” he says.
While he was really only making the game for Ria, it quickly became popular, with thousands of users from around the world playing. The game is even being used in at least one classroom: Ria’s teacher has added it to their class curriculum. Praneeth is pleased with the popularity of his creation and hopes even more people start playing.
