A Michigan sheriff’s dive team recovers a man’s $80-thousand prosthetic leg from the bottom of a lake. Brandon Smith was enjoying a summer day on a lake in eastern Michigan, floating on a raft with his six-year-old son. But when the boy jumped off the raft, his father’s $80-thousand prosthetic leg came off and sank 50 feet to the bottom of the lake.
Brandon attempted to recover his prosthetic, but couldn’t get it, so the family contacted the local sheriff’s office for help. Deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office met with the family the next day to confirm the GPS coordinates of where the prosthesis was lost and two days later the Sheriff’s dive team returned to search for it.
After only ten minutes in the water, Deputy Justin Wiegand was able to locate the prosthesis — which was in “surprisingly good shape” — and return it to Brandon. The family expressed their sincere gratitude to the Sheriff’s deputies for helping them recover the prosthetic leg. In a statement, Sheriff Michael Bouchard says he’s proud of his dive team’s “amazing job.”
