Nathan’s hot dogs are a Coney Island classic, and their annual hot dog eating contest is now a national event every July 4th (and yes, Joey Chestnut won again this year). But in much cooler news – as in freezer cold – the Brooklyn ice cream shop, The Social, has introduced a hot dog ice cream called “Let the Dogs Out!”.
It’s described as a “toasted buttered bun ice cream with medallions of caramelized Nathan’s all beef hot dogs” and no, it doesn’t have any condiments like mustard, ketchup, pickles or relish – it’s just ice cream that contains bits of the hot dog and bun.
The new ice cream is made by buttering and toasting Arnold potato hot dog buns and blending them into a sweet cream base. Finally, the hot dogs are caramelized and sliced into pieces the size of pennies. The end result is that the hot dogs come out with a candied hard exterior similar to M&Ms. The Social says that the ice cream is limited-edition only so if you want to try this new concoction you need to hurry.
