Thanks to “Stranger Things” Kate Bush’s 1985 hit “Running Up That Hill (Deal With God)” tops the UK singles chart this week, which sets a new record.

With a 37-week journey to the chart, Kate’s song now breaks the record for the longest trip to number one, a milestone previously held by Wham’s “Last Christmas,” which went to number one in 2021 after 36 years. It also marks the chart’s longest gap between number one singles, with Kate initially topping the chart 44 years ago with “Wuthering Heights.”

Kate, who is 63 years and 11 months old, also surpasses Cher as the oldest female artist to lead the Official UK Singles chart. Cher did it in 1998 with “Believe,” when she was 52.

  • And Cher acknowledged Kate’s new record on social media. “Bravo Kate,” she tweeted. “Records are meant to be broken,” noting, “Remember back in the day, when women had short sell-by dates We had to fight our way through the testosterone curtain, and we did it so the girls who came after us could sing as long as they want to.” She then signed off, “Mega respect.”
