Father & Son Make & Donate Custom Caskets For The Uvalde Shooting Victims

A family-owned Texas company makes and donates custom caskets for the victims of the mass shooting in Uvalde. After the tragic mass shooting last week that claimed the lives of 19 fourth graders and two teachers, Trey Ganem and his 25-year-old son, Billy Ganem, of SoulShine Industries in Edna, Texas, were approached about providing caskets for the victims.

The Ganems agreed and a company in Georgia rushed to produce the caskets to send to Texas. In the meantime, Trey met with the families of the victims to discuss what designs would match the victim’s interests. The caskets arrived on Friday and the crew at SoulShine worked through the holiday weekend to customize the 19 caskets in time for funerals that would start this week.

The custom designs featured the victims’ favorite superheroes, sports, video games or other interests. The Ganems hand painted each of the caskets and hardware. Graphics and decals were provided by a pair of local design companies. And while he has received some donations, Trey says he isn’t asking to be paid for the job. "I didn't even think twice when I was asked to do it," he says.
