“Groovy” music can get your brain dancing! That’s the word from scientists in Japan. They discovered that “music with a groove” can significantly increase your executive function and associated brain activity. The only hiccup? It has to be a familiar tune.
Groove music, according to the study authors, sparks feelings of pleasure while also boosting “behavioral arousal levels.” They say it’s the same as the effect exercise has. This is the first study to test the executive function part out.
The potential to help people stay mentally sharp or keep dementia at bay seems to be big. Not to mention students who need to study or workers needing to stay focused. Catchy tunes at work? Yes please!
