NC Math Lover Wins Nearly $200K Lottery Prize Using Number Pi

A math lover in North Carolina wins $192-thousand in the lottery by playing the numbers of pi. Jonathan Ruby has always been a math person and the numbers of pi have been ever-present in his life. “I kept seeing that number so my karma told me to use it,” Ruby says. “I even lived at a 314 address as a child.”

So, when the 64-year-old bartender from Raleigh was picking numbers for North Carolina Lottery’s Cash 5 game last November, he decided to play the numbers of pi. Well, some of his lucky numbers matched and he and two other winners split the $578-thousand jackpot.

Ruby’s winnings totalled over $192-thousand, but he ended up taking home $137-thousand after taxes. He plans to use the money to pay some bills and put the rest away for retirement.
