Graduation is always an exciting time for students, but the class of 2022 at one historically black college in East Texas got some good news that made it even more exciting. During the commencement ceremony at Wiley College, the graduates were told that an anonymous donor has paid their balances off.
According to the HBCU, more than 100 students were at graduation on Saturday in Marshall, Texas when the school’s president made the announcement. “We are constantly communicating with donors to assist students in these ways so that they can begin their after-college experience with less debt,” explained Herman J. Felton Jr, Wiley College’s President and CEO.
The college estimates the total for the balances owed to the school by the graduating class of 2022 is around $300-thousand.
