Teen Finds Safe In River, Locates Owner It Was Stolen From Decades Ago

A UK teen finds a safe full of money on the bottom of a river and returns the contents to its rightful owner. A few weeks ago, 15-year-old George Tindale from Nottinghamshire, England was using a magnet to fish for treasure in the River Witham with his dad when they made an incredible discovery. They pulled in a safe that had a pouch with 25-hundred Australian dollars in it (about $18-hundred US.)

Also inside the safe were documents and bank cards, which gave Tindale the clues he needed to track down the safe’s owner, Rob Everett. The teen contacted him and visited him last week to return the safe, which Everett says was stolen from him 22 years ago.

Everett was amazed that the safe had been found after all these years, and even more impressed that Tindale chose to return the contents to him. “There are some really nice and good people in this world,” says the grateful owner. “They could have kept the money.” Everett gave Tindale a small cash reward for his good deed and made a standing offer for the teen to come and work for him when he finishes school.
