Tween Woodworker’s Bowl Raises Over $300K For Ukrainian Kids

A British 12-year-old raises over $300-thousand for Ukrainian children by raffling a wooden bowl he made. Gabriel Clark from Cumbria, England, has always had a passion for woodworking and doing good. Earlier this year, his father, Richard Clark, posted a tweet asking people to check out his son’s woodworking. The tweet went viral, orders poured in for Gabriel’s handmade bowls and cutting boards, and his Instagram page picked up over 200-thousand followers in just a couple of days.

Gabriel then had the good idea to cash in on his newfound popularity to help children in Ukraine. He created a one-of-a-kind bowl with a blue and yellow ring — the colors of the Ukrainian flag — to raffle off to raise money for the Save The Children Ukraine Appeal. He set a goal of raising around $65-hundred, but as of Sunday afternoon, he’d raised over $300-thousand.

Gabriel is “really amazed” at the amount of the donations and pleased that his efforts are helping the children of Ukraine. "I want to know that I can make other children's lives better by doing a little bit of something in my own life," he says. But Gabriel’s parents aren’t surprised that he’s making a difference. "The main thing about Gabriel, he's got a really, really big heart," says Gabriel’s mother, Teresa McCann Clark. "He's talented, he's creative, but more than anything, he's got a big heart."
