Teacher Wins $50K On Lottery Ticket Husband Buys To Cheer Her Up

A Maryland elementary school teacher wins $50-thousand on a scratch-off lottery ticket her husband bought her to cheer her up. Last month, 18-year veteran teacher Robyn Meija had been having a rough week when her husband brought her home a scratch-off lottery ticket to raise her spirits. Well, the winning ticket did more than cheer her up, it made her $50-thousand richer.

Meija scratched off the ticket, realized that she’d won the game’s top cash prize of $50-thousand, and couldn’t believe her good luck. She had her husband take the ticket back to the 7-Eleven where he bought it in Thurmont, Maryland, to verify the win.

Then she put the ticket in a safe for a few weeks until her school’s spring break when she could take the trip to Baltimore to collect her winnings. The couple plans to use the money to help them get a new house. “We have been saving money for a down payment on a house, thinking we would be ready by the end of the year,” the 39-year-old mother of two says. “But now, we don’t have to wait!”
