FL Deputy Stops Teen Threatening To Jump From Overpass

A Florida sheriff’s deputy is being praised for saving the life of a suicidal teen, talking him off the edge of a Interstate overpass. Around noon on Sunday, March 20th, Broward County Sheriff Deputy Darnell Hernandez responded to a report of a teenage boy sitting on the edge of an overpass of Interstate 95 in Broward County.

Hernandez found the young man sitting with his feet dangling over the passing traffic, visibly upset and crying. The deputy recognized that the teen might be suicidal and called for the road below to be closed and for Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue to respond.

Hernandez began talking to the teen and reassuring him that there were people who cared about him and didn’t want him to get hurt. After a few minutes of talking, the teen backed away from the edge enough for Hernandez to safely pull him off the ledge, preventing a possible tragedy.
