A Wisconsin man picks up a lottery ticket while at the store getting hot dogs for his wife and wins $107-thousand. On March 22nd, Joseph Bednarek of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, stepped into the Pick ‘N Save grocery to buy some hot dogs at the request of his wife, Ellen. At the checkout, he saw a sign for the Wisconsin Lottery Badger 5 game saying the jackpot — which starts at $10-thousand — had rolled over and was now $96-thousand.
Bednarek considers himself lucky, but he’s never won more than a few hundred dollars in the lottery. Sometimes he’ll play the Badger 5 game and would normally get five tickets for $5, but he had $10 left after his hot dog purchase, so he went all-in on the game.
Later, when Bednarek called into the lottery hotline to see if he’d won, he could hardly believe his good fortune and had to call multiple times to confirm. The couple say they plan to use the money to pay off their camper and put a new roof on their house. "The rest of the few thousand we'll probably fill up our gas tank 10 times. That'll be it," jokes Bednarek.
