A good Samaritan rescues a pair of two-year-olds who escaped from their preschool and wandered out to a busy four-lane road. Kirbie Washington was driving in Summerville, South Carolina, last Thursday morning, when she saw a pair of young children dangerously close to the road. She was shocked to see the little ones making their way closer toward traffic and there didn’t appear to be any adults around watching them.
Washington stopped her car in the middle of the street and got out to get the toddlers back to safety. “I ran past the younger girl first because she was on the sidewalk just picking up rocks,” recalls Washington. “But the little boy was actually off of the sidewalk in the road.” After getting the children safely off the roadway, she called the police for help.
Officers arrived shortly and discovered the kids had escaped from a nearby preschool. Staffers from the daycare say the toddlers escaped through a hole in their fence and they were frantically looking for them. Washington, who has three kids of her own, was glad she was there to help protect the toddlers. “It was like an automatic reflex just to get to the kids and make sure that they were safe,” she says.
