A new mom in the U.K. won a nearly $5-million English mansion in a charity raffle — and her ticket was just $13. Becca Pott from southeast England was the lucky winner of Omaze’s Million Pound House Draw and won a five-bedroom mansion in a posh neighborhood east of London. The 32-year-old new mother will get the home with all taxes and legal fees paid, but she nearly didn’t get the shot at the prize.
“My husband had entered every Omaze Million Pound House Draw prior to this one, but somehow he’d forgotten to enter on this occasion. But luckily I decided to buy a £10 (10-pound) ticket bundle in January without him knowing after seeing the house on television,” Pott recalls. “I’m never going to let him live this down!”
Before Pott’s lucky win, she and her husband and eight-month-old daughter were living in a cramped apartment with no room for their parents to visit. “The house is incredible. We’ve been wanting to move to somewhere bigger since our daughter Ava was born, now she’ll be having her first birthday in a mansion,” says Pott. “We didn’t have space for her grandparents to come and stay in our two-bedroom flat, but now they can have the entire third floor when they visit.”
- This was the sixth Omaze Million Pound House Draw in the U.K. and it brought in nearly $680-thousand to help fund cancer research.
