A nonprofit recycles flowers and vases to spread joy to those in need. Healing with Flowers, a volunteer organization in Greenville, Tennessee, uses flowers and vases donated to them from weddings and funerals to create new arrangements that they give out. Every Monday morning, the group of volunteers gets together to rework the recycled flowers and distribute them to hospitals, nursing homes, and hospice patients.
Cynthia Darlin, who helped found Healing with Flowers six years ago, says she was called to start the organization because of her love of flowers and the fellowship that the volunteers get to experience. “I have such wonderful volunteers,” Darlin says. “Everybody here comes here because they want to help.”
With fewer in-person get-togethers and supply chain issues, the group had some trouble during the pandemic, shutting down in March of 2020 and not starting back up until last June. They’re slowly getting back to their pre-pandemic level now. Currently, they only serve the Greeneville area, but they hope to be able to expand to other nearby towns as their volunteer and donation numbers grow. Since their start, Healing with Flowers has recycled and delivered more than 30-thousand arrangements.
