Earlier this week, San Antonio Animal Care Services reunited a lost cat with her family after a six year absence. The shelter posted on Facebook to share the good news. ACS Officer Adan Perez was sent to pick up a cat that was reported as looking sick and when he scanned the cat for a microchip, he learned her name was Monkey Face. Perez drove Monkey Face to the owner’s listed address, but they didn’t live there anymore. So he took the cat back to the shelter for a veterinary exam and hoped they’d be able to find her owner.
Back at the shelter, Monkey Face got the care she needed and staff researched to try and find her owner. The other contact information included in her microchip registry was also out of date, but workers at the shelter didn’t give up, continuing to try and locate Monkey Face’s people. After a couple of weeks, they were able to find her mom. Ms. F was in disbelief that her cat who’d been missing for six years had been located. Monkey Face looked at-home in her owner’s arms and Ms. F got a little teary-eyed over the reunion.
In their Facebook post, the shelter says this is why they do what they do. “These stories touch our hearts and reassure us of the work we do. The power of the microchip, the hard-working team members, the care these pets receive...It’s all connected to our mission to find homes for the pets in our care. And Monkey Face wouldn’t have it any other way! 😻”
