Dog Saves Former Police Chief From House Fire

A man in Kosse, Texas, managed to escape a fire that destroyed his home and it’s all thanks to his dog. Mark Morris, the former Kosse police chief, was at home alone when the blaze broke out early Sunday morning. He was alerted to the flames when his dog started barking and he went downstairs to find the back of the house was on fire.

Morris managed to get his dog out safely, but heat and smoke kept him trapped inside. He finally got out by breaking a window and by that time, the house that he was building with his wife was engulfed in flames. He suffered second and third degree burns and cuts that required 35 stitches, but he and his wife are still grateful that all they lost was their shelter and possessions.

“Everything else is gone. We’re starting over from scratch,” Morris says. “But I’ve been amazed by the people who have said they want to help.”
