School Resource Officer De-escalates Middle School Gun Incident

An early morning gun incident at a Minnesota middle school was under control before anyone got hurt, thanks to a school resource officer. A student is in custody after allegedly firing multiple shots inside Plymouth Middle School Monday morning, according to officials.

Plymouth Police Chief Erik Fadden says no one was hurt and authorities were not looking for any other suspects. The unnamed student allegedly brought a loaded handgun to school and fired shots into the hallway ceiling, according to Stephanie Burrage, interim superintendent of Robbinsdale Area Schools. She says a staff member was the first on-site, followed by a school resource officer.

Hennepin County Sheriff David Hutchinson said “thank God” a school resource officer was there to “de-escalate” the situation adding that it was the best possible resolution.
