Retiring Shoe Store Owner Donates Inventory To Salvation Army

After more than 70 years in the shoe business, Mohammad Shafi is closing up shop and retiring. The 91-year-old has owned several shoe stores in British Columbia, Canada, over the last few decades and he’s still looking out for his customers as he closes shop.

“Mo” says one of his customers was Major Norm Hamelin, Corps Officer at the Mt. Arrowsmith Salvation Army. The men became friends and Mo told him that if he retires, he would donate his remaining inventory to the Salvation Army. Now he’s making good on that promise.

The walking shoes, orthotic shoes and other comfortable footwear he used to sell will now support the community and help people walk in comfort. Bonnie Brown, Salvation Army business manager says they’re honored by the gift of the specialty shoes, which are normally expensive, but will now be available for less at their store.
