Bernie Sanders is using that viral image of him at the inauguration to raise money for a good cause. The Senator from Vermont was photographed at the event sitting in a chair bundled up in a coat, a face mask and mittens and it’s become a very popular meme in the days following.
Now Sanders is selling a sweatshirt with the image on his website and all the proceeds will go to Meals on Wheels Vermont. The “Chairman Sanders Crewneck” is made in the USA and sells for $45, but it’s been such a hit, it’s sold out for now.
In an appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” Bernie talked about the now-famous mittens, which were a gift to him from a teacher in his home state. He defended his fashion statement at the inauguration, telling Meyers, “I was just sitting there trying to keep warm, trying to pay attention to what was going on.”
