Utah Hiker Survives 100 Foot Fall

A hiker in Utah is counting his blessings after surviving a fall. The Salt Lake City Fire Department reports that the 29-year-old man was walking near the base of Ensign Peak when he got too close to the edge and slipped, plunging more than 100 feet.

“He got too close to the edge and took a slide and tumble halfway down the cliff base into the rock quarry,” Battalion Chief Mark Bednarik explains. The hiker landed on a cliff ledge, where he was stranded for hours because he lost his phone in the fall and couldn’t call for help.

The unidentified man injured his pelvis and leg and was unable to move, but luckily some homeless people heard him yelling for help and called 911. After five hours he was rescued and he’s lucky to be alive.
